Fans of Alison Krauss & Union Station will be pleased to know the bluegrass star and her band are getting ready to release their first new album in several years.

Titled Paper Airplane, the new album is set to drop on April 12. This is the first new studio release to follow Krauss’ efforts and success with Robert Plant, the former Led Zeppelin frontman who paired with her beautifully on the award-winning Raising Sand. Airplane was recorded in Nashville and includes new tracks plus covers of Richard Thompson’s “Dimming of the Day,” and Jackson Browne’s “My Opening Farewell.”

Krauss has missed recording with the band, saying, “I really wanted it to be just the five of us, so it’s pretty stripped down. We all have different tastes, and our backgrounds show up in a wonderful way on this record.”

New music usually means a new tour, but still no word on that front. Check back for more Alison Krauss news.

Though Alison Krauss didn’t receive any nominations for this year’s International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, that didn’t stop her from attending the event as a performer and host for one of the night’s biggest awards.

Her performance was part of the 10-year celebration of O Brother Where Art Thou, during which she played “Down to the River to Pray,” followed by The Whites, who played “Keep on the Sunny Side” and Dan Tyminski and Union Station who played “Man of Constant Sorrow.”

Later she was joined by Bluegrass Hall of Famer Rodney Dillard to present the event’s top award, Entertainer of the Year to Dailey & Vincent.

“One of the things we tell the guys on the bus before we go onstage is that there’s people in that crowd who may have financial problems or health or marital problems—any kind of trouble you can image. It is our job to go in there for an hour or two and entertain them and do what we can to take their troubles away,” said Dailey.

The ceremony was held Sept. 30 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
